Langkawi is where many Malaysia programmes finish: three or four nights of boats, beach and the cable car after the city days in Kuala Lumpur. It is an archipelago of 99 islands off the north-west coast, a UNESCO Global Geopark since 2007 and a duty-free island. As a Langkawi DMC we run the ground part from landing to the flight out.
We quote hotels on contracted rates, private transfers, the three tours nearly every client takes (the Kilim mangroves, island hopping and SkyCab) and evening extras such as a sunset dinner cruise. One costed quote and one operations contact, whether Langkawi is the whole trip or the last stop.
How agents combine Langkawi
Most of the Langkawi bookings we handled in the past year included Kuala Lumpur, and about one in five was Langkawi on its own. These are the shapes we quote most. Tell us the pax and hotel category and we will adjust the nights.
Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi
Kuala Lumpur 3N→Langkawi 3N
Clear immigration at KLIA, spend three nights in the city with Genting as a day trip, then take the domestic flight north. Pick a morning departure so the first island day isn’t lost to airports.
Suits families and first-time visitors.
Genting, Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi
Genting 1N→Kuala Lumpur 3N→Langkawi 3N
Go from KLIA up to Genting for one night while everyone has energy, then Kuala Lumpur, then the beach. The slow days come last, which suits groups travelling with grandparents.
Suits multi-generation families.
Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi
Singapore 3N→Kuala Lumpur 2N→Langkawi 3N
Coach to Kuala Lumpur (covered on our Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand page), then fly to Langkawi. Direct Langkawi to Singapore flights let the trip close the loop at Changi or run in reverse.
Suits groups that want two cities and a beach.
Getting the group to Langkawi
Malaysia Airports counted eight airlines at Langkawi International Airport in April 2026, with newer international routes such as Tashkent. For most groups, though, Langkawi is a domestic hop from Kuala Lumpur.
| From | How | Time | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kuala Lumpur | Flight from KLIA, and from Subang on some airlines | About 1 hour in the air | The busiest route by far. Check the baggage allowance on the domestic ticket against what the group carried on the international one. |
| Singapore | Direct flight from Changi | About 1.5 hours in the air | Far fewer departures than from KL, and schedules change. Check the days of operation first. |
| Mainland ferry | Kuala Perlis or Kuala Kedah to the Kuah jetty | About 1 hour 15 minutes from Kuala Perlis, 1 hour 45 minutes from Kuala Kedah | Daytime sailings only, and high waves cancel them: on one day in September 2024, eight Kuala Kedah trips were called off. We use the ferry only for groups already in the north. |
The direct ferry from Penang has stopped. Its operator, Langkawi Ferry Services, points passengers to the Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis routes instead, so for groups coming from Penang we quote the short flight.
What we run in Langkawi
The two boat tours are shared (SIC) with hotel pickup, which suits families and couples. The city tour is private. Times are the departures we book.
| Tour or ticket | How it runs | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Mangrove tour, Kilim Geoforest Park | SIC, 9am or 2pm, hotel pickup and drop-off, 3 to 4 hours | Mangrove rivers and limestone on the north-east coast, a cave, eagles over the river and a fish farm stop. The morning boat leaves the afternoon free. |
| Island hopping | SIC, 9:30am or 2pm, hotel pickup, beach entrance fee included | The freshwater lake on Pulau Dayang Bunting, eagle watching and a swim stop at Pulau Beras Basah. Swimwear under clothes. |
| SkyCab and SkyBridge | Standard or combo tickets, with a private transfer | 9:30am to 6pm on the operator’s current calendar, from noon on maintenance days. Shared cabins of six at a set boarding time. SkyBridge is reached by SkyGlide, a separate ticket, or a 10-minute jungle walk that is hard going for young children and older travellers. |
| City tour | Private, 4 hours | Eagle Square, Oriental Village, the craft complex and coastal stops. Fits around an arrival or departure flight. |
| Sunset dinner cruise | About 4 hours from around 5 to 5:30pm, hotel pickup | Weather permitting, so book it early in the stay. |
| Underwater World | Ticket, at Pantai Cenang | Open 10am to 6pm, 9:30am to 6:30pm in school and public holidays. The indoor option for a wet afternoon. |

One rule we apply to every Langkawi itinerary: SkyCab and the boats go in the first full days, never the last. Panorama Langkawi says its SkyCab calendar can change without notice, and when SkyCab closes, SkyBridge and SkyGlide close with it. The boats depend on the sea. A free day at the end absorbs either problem.
Transfers are private only
We don’t offer shared transfers in Langkawi. Our average booking here is four people, and hotels are spread from the Pantai Cenang strip to Teluk Datai in the far north-west, so a private vehicle timed to the group’s own flight makes more sense than a shuttle. What we book:
- Airport transfers to and from the hotel.
- Cruise port transfers for clients joining or leaving a cruise in Langkawi.
- Hotel to attraction, one way or return: SkyCab, the boat jetties, Underwater World, the wildlife park and Kuah for shopping.
- Vehicle and driver at disposal for 4, 5 or 8 hours.
- Meal coupons for set lunches or dinners at partner restaurants, Malaysian food or seafood.
For the Kuala Lumpur end of the trip, see our Kuala Lumpur airport transfer guide.
Entry rules and duty-free
- Immigration: a group flying in through Kuala Lumpur clears it at KLIA, and the Langkawi flight is domestic. On a direct international flight, the group clears at Langkawi airport.
- Visa: not needed for many nationalities. Indian citizens, for example, currently get up to 30 days visa-free under an arrangement that runs to 31 December 2026, so check again before quoting 2027 departures.
- Arrival card: foreign visitors file the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) online within three days before arrival, with a few exemptions.
Visitors who stay on Langkawi at least 48 hours qualify for a duty-free allowance on what they buy. Malaysia’s Budget 2027 raises it from RM1,000 to RM10,000 from 1 January 2027, tobacco excluded, as announced by the Finance Ministry in October 2026. A two-night stay that lands in the afternoon and leaves on a morning flight falls short of 48 hours, so for a shopping group book three nights or move the flights.
When to sell Langkawi
According to MetMalaysia, the north-west of the peninsula is driest in January and February, with a smaller dry spell in June and July, and wettest in October and November, then April and May. Our bookings cluster around the main dry season: about three quarters of our Langkawi check-ins in the past year fell between December and April, and June to September was almost empty. Events fill hotels too: LIMA, the maritime and aerospace show, runs on the island from 20 to 24 April 2027, so quote April groups early. Month-by-month detail is in our guide to the best time to visit Malaysia.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many nights should we book in Langkawi?
Three for most groups; our clients average three and a half. That fits the mangroves, the islands and SkyCab with afternoons free. Add a fourth for a beach day, or for a shopping group that needs the 48 hours for the duty-free allowance.
Do travellers clear immigration again when flying from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi?
No. International arrivals clear Malaysian immigration at KLIA, and the Langkawi flight is domestic. Only a direct international flight into Langkawi means clearing immigration on the island.
Do you offer SIC transfers in Langkawi?
No, transfers are private only. The mangrove and island-hopping tours are shared with hotel pickup, so a budget-minded family can still combine shared tours with private airport transfers.
Is the Langkawi cable car open every day?
On Panorama Langkawi’s current calendar it runs from 9:30am to 6pm, opening at noon on maintenance days, which the calendar lists in advance. Check it before fixing the date. SkyBridge and SkyGlide close whenever SkyCab does.
For Kuala Lumpur, Genting and the rest of the mainland, see our Malaysia DMC page. Agents who book components themselves can do it at net rates on our B2B travel portal.
