Genting Highlands is the hill resort an hour’s drive from Kuala Lumpur where the cable car tops out at 1,725 metres. MetMalaysia’s forecast for the first week of November 2026 gives it 18 to 25°C, against 24 to 33°C in the city. As a Genting Highlands DMC we sell it the way clients buy it: one or two nights, or a day trip, inside a Malaysia programme. Nearly all our Genting bookings in the past year also included Kuala Lumpur, and more than half added Langkawi.
We book the hotels, private transfers, cable car and theme park tickets, set-meal coupons and day tours, all on the same quote as the rest of the Malaysia trip.
Where the group sleeps decides the logistics
Half the Genting stays we booked last year were at First World Hotel, inside the resort, and most of the rest at independent hotels outside it. Each level of the hill changes how the group reaches the parks.
| Where | Examples | Getting to the parks | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inside Resorts World, at the top | First World Hotel, Genting Grand | On foot. First World Hotel sits at the heart of the resort, by First World Plaza, SkyAvenue and Skytropolis | First World Hotel has 7,351 rooms in three towers, with room categories split by tower, so a group mixing Standard and Deluxe rooms ends up in two buildings. |
| Near the top, outside the resort | Grand Ion Delemen | Hotel shuttle to the First World Hotel entrance | The hotel’s site doesn’t publish shuttle times. Confirm them before a family relies on the shuttle late at night. |
| Mid-hill | Resorts World Awana, 3,100 ft up | Free shuttle to Sky Sentral, 7am to midnight, then the Awana SkyWay | Golf and rainforest trails. Better for a rest stop than a theme park day. |
First World Hotel and Genting Grand don’t let one guest check in on behalf of another, and a confirmed room can’t be transferred. Each room’s named guest comes to the desk, so rooming-list names must match passports. A room nobody checks into is charged as a no-show.
Getting up the hill with luggage
About a quarter of our Genting bookings go straight up the hill from the airport, then down to the city. An arrival day runs like this:
- Meet at KLIA after immigration. Resorts World puts the drive at about two hours, before stops.
- Stop at Batu Caves or Putrajaya on a morning arrival. Genting Grand checks in from 3pm, and First World Hotel charges per room to check in before 3pm.
- Leave the Karak Expressway at Genting Sempah. The road from there is private, owned by Genting Malaysia, and its rules ban stopping on the carriageway or shoulder. No roadside photo stops.
- Drive to the hotel door with the bags. The Awana SkyWay takes one cabin-size bag per passenger and charges for anything larger, so suitcases go by road.

The cable car is then an outing, not transport. Guests staying at the top can ride down to Chin Swee Caves Temple, a free stop on the same ticket, or to the outlet mall beside Sky Sentral, and back up. Day-trippers from the city, with pickups usually between 10 and 11:30am, can do it the other way: up from Sky Sentral, 2.8 km in about 10 minutes, and back down to the vehicle. Batu Caves fits either leg; last year our clients took it on the way down about as often as on the way up. Over the Aidiladha long weekend in May 2026, Malaysia’s Highway Authority listed the Karak Expressway between Gombak and Genting Sempah, in both directions, among its congestion hotspots, so leave early on long weekends.
Tickets we book, and the rules that catch groups out
Hours are from the operators’ own pages on 1 November 2026.
| Ticket | Hours | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Awana SkyWay, return | 7am to 11pm daily | Gondolas are shared, 8 to 10 people each, unless you charter one for up to 10. Children under 90 cm ride free. If Awana closes for maintenance, the alternative is the Genting SkyWay from Gohtong Jaya, 9am to 7pm. |
| Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park | 10am to 6pm. Closed every Tuesday except Malaysian public holidays and school holidays | Tickets are dated and non-transferable. Children under 90 cm enter free. Outdoor rides pause in heavy rain or strong wind, but the park stays open and weather brings no refund. |
| Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park | 11am to 9pm, Saturdays to 10pm | Indoors at First World Plaza. One price for adults and children, a height limit on each ride, and no rides for pregnant guests. |
MetMalaysia’s Genting forecast for 1 to 7 November 2026 shows dry mornings and thunderstorms every afternoon. SkyWorlds publishes the days its Rainy Day Guarantee was triggered (an hour of continuous bad weather earns a free return within 12 months): twelve since November 2025, three in October 2026. Combo tickets don’t qualify, and a free visit next year doesn’t help a one-night group. Our rule: SkyWorlds in the morning, Skytropolis or SkyAvenue after lunch, and no SkyWorlds on a non-holiday Tuesday.
Private transfers, sized for the group
We don’t run shared (SIC) transfers here. Three in four of our Genting bookings are two to four people, landing at different times and staying at different levels of the hill, so every transfer is a private vehicle:
| Passengers | Vehicle |
|---|---|
| 1 to 3 | Sedan |
| Up to 4 | MPV |
| 4 to 10 | 10-seater van |
| 11 to 13 | 16-seater van |
| 13 to 15 | 18-seater van |
| More than 15 | Ask us before quoting the client |
Routes: KLIA to Genting direct or via Batu Caves or Putrajaya, and back; Kuala Lumpur hotel to Genting, one way or return; and a private day tour via Batu Caves, about seven hours, or ten with dinner at the top. Send the bag count with the head count. For the city end, see our Kuala Lumpur airport transfer guide.
Building a Genting package from Singapore
Resorts World lists daily coaches from Singapore, run by its appointed bus agents. They suit independent travellers. For an agent’s clients we usually quote a flight to KLIA and a transfer straight up the hill, or the coach to Kuala Lumpur as part of a longer circuit (see our Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand page) with Genting from the city. If the group spends three or more days in Singapore first, its Malaysian arrival card has to be filed from there.
Entry rules and the dates that fill the hill
- Visa: many passports need none for a short visit; it depends on nationality. One example: Indian passport holders may stay up to 30 days without a visa until 31 December 2026. Re-check before quoting 2027 trips.
- Arrival card: every foreign visitor submits the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) online. The portal only accepts a trip that starts within three days, counting the day of submission.
- Peak days: Resorts World charges peak parking rates on weekends, public holidays and school holidays, and SkyWorlds opens on Tuesdays in the holidays. Book rooms at the top early for those dates.
- Next peaks: Malaysia’s year-end school break, 5 to 31 December 2026 in most states (from 4 December in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu); Chinese New Year, 6 and 7 February 2027; Hari Raya Puasa, 10 and 11 March 2027, subject to change.
Questions agents ask us about Genting
Is one night in Genting enough?
For most clients, yes: just over half our Genting stays last year were one night, and most of the rest two. Book two if the group wants both theme parks, if a non-holiday Tuesday falls in the stay, or if you want a spare morning in case of afternoon storms.
Can a day trip from Kuala Lumpur include the theme park?
Only just. Our day tour runs about seven hours from a 10am pickup, with Batu Caves on the way, and SkyWorlds closes at 6pm. For a full park day, stay the night or skip Batu Caves.
Can guests take suitcases on the cable car?
One cabin-size bag each; larger bags cost extra. Sky Sentral has 24-hour baggage storage. With suitcases, we send the group up by road.
Do children pay?
Under 90 cm, they ride the Awana SkyWay and enter SkyWorlds free. Skytropolis charges everyone the same. Senior cable car tickets for non-Malaysians are sold only at the counter, on sight of a passport.
For the island leg that so many Genting trips include, see Langkawi DMC; for the rest of the country, Malaysia DMC. Agents who prefer to book transfers and tickets themselves can use our B2B travel portal.
