Top Local Markets in Dubrovnik, Croatia
Even if it has many Five star hotels, Dubrovnik is still an old-school community with no big shopping centers or hypermarkets. Local Markets still plays an important role in every day life. We have made a list of the best local markets in Dubrovnik.
Gunduliceva poljana
Right behind the Church of St Blaise in Dubrovnik’s old town there is the main market which fills the square of Gundulićeva poljana six days in a week. Not only this is the busiest but it’s items are most varied in Dubrovnik’s market with natural nectars, jams, herbs, flavors, oils and lavenders on numerous stalls and having stacks of tomatoes, peppers, apples, grapes and oranges. You may also discover home-made rakija spirit and wine.
Gruz market
Gruz is as occupied as Dubrovnik’s principle market in the Old Town. However, there are far less vacationers here. It’s near the main port and bus station, permitting sellers (and customers) to head over from the islands and the Dalmatian hinterland. Gruz market is particularly focused on produce. Women of a particular age purchase items for soups and cakes and fish for supper. You can take a look at the farmers who came here from the Neretva Delta or Konavle, some in traditional dress.
Dubrovnik Christmas Market
Appearance in Zagreb has been an immense success, however Dubrovnik’s undeniably more humble version is the Dubrovnik Winter Festival. It is basically a Christmas market with a tree set up on the principle square of Loža with coral singers at the Church of St Blaise. It is warmer – this is southern Europe, not Central and you can sit outside comfortably by day.
Lapad market
This market is the least popular market among the local markets in Dubrovnik, set around a little square where Mata Vodopića meets Kralja Tomislava. Like Gruž, it’s particularly an asset for local people. And it is near the beach so you can do a lot oof things here and can spend some quality time with your family and loved ones. The fruits which you will find here are naturally organic. You’ll find a baker’s shop nearby to get some fresh breads and cakes.

Lapad market in Dubrovnik
Situated behind the huge shopping mall “DOC”, Lapad market serves to local people, yet it’s not as famous as Gruz market.
Go for a stroll in Lapad market, you can buy some groceries and household items and stop for some espresso in the close-by Lapad pedisterian zone. Organic fruits and vegetables and fresh fish will make your vacation a tasty difference.
This market can be discovered where the pathway to the shoreline meets the main road to the Old Town, kralja Tomislava. Most mornings you will find local people buying apples and tomatoes yet on Sundays a bunch of stalls are given over to bric-a-brac books, postcards, stamps and many more.

Dubrovnik Christmas Market
Dubrovnik Christmas Market is held in the excellent chamber of the Convent of St. Claire. The Dubrovnik Christmas Market will includes skilled craftsmen of traditional ink, showing their lovely Christmas adornments, well known Croatian embroidery, hand-made candles, stone work and many other items.
The uniqueness and beauty of Dubrovnik is visible during Christmas time. And this town also organizes Chistmas Fair.
You can find candles, toys, glassworks, weaving, pottery and porcelain, and everything that the specialists make by hand for the Christmas season in this market. Likewise there will be Christmas treats and desserts, broiled sugar coated almonds, candy-coated orange strips ˝arancini˝, traditional Dubrovnik desserts like the quince cheddar ˝kontonjata˝ and different delights that are set up for this festive season. This market is enriched with the sound of Christmas carols, the Christmas Fair will be open from St. Nicholas’ Day to January sixth.
So this Chirstmas season visit this place and have a joyous season:
Operating Days

Gruz market in Dubrovnik
The principle market in Dubrovnik for natural products like fruits and vegetables and fish. Gruz market is bigger and less expensive than the one in the Old Town Gunduliceva poljana. Customers and visiors visit here near the ship terminal from early in the morning in the hope of locating the best items. Converse with sellers and learn about their culture. You can even find the best cabbage for zelena menestra i.e cabbage, smoked pork and potato.
You can also find goats cheddar, the best eggs for rozata (the neighborhood variant of creme caramel) and orange cake, oranges from Lopud. Costs are for the most part fixed and wrangling doesn’t will in general occur. Prices are fixed in this market but still you can negotiate and can get a discount when the market is closing.
If you love fish then visit the market early in the morning around 7AM. The stock differs everyday, however Fridays is generally the best. In spite of the fact that everybody here complains about the typical cost for living nowadays, the most costly fish starting from 100kn a kilo disappears rapidly rapidly.

Gunduliceva Poljana Market in Dubrovnik
Gunduliceva Poljana is the outdoor market in the Old Town that has various stalls with seasonal fruits and vegetables and many other local items like dried lavender, lavender oil, locally produced Grappa and many more.
The market takes place each morning and close toward the evening, so on the off chance that you might want to visit and browse around in this locality or market then get up early in the morning. Individuals offer here nearby locally produced fresh items which are grown in the nearby areas (generally Konavle locale).
This can be an incredible method to begin your day in Dubrovnik where you can get something extremely decent to eat and after that sit in the corner of the square in a cafe for your morning espresso.
On the square itself there is a huge statue of Dubrovnik’s seventeenth century writer Ivan Gundulic after whom the square was named.
